FASS 4®

From Feuersbrunn to New York.

Arguably the most legendary and historically significant Grüner Veltliner in the world. A classic. In honor of Bernhard’s father, who first bottled Cask 4® in 1988. Then as now, made from 100% estate-grown grapes from Hengstberg. Approachable, subtly spicy, firm, with a smooth texture and plenty of energy.

A wine glass filled with 1/8 Fass 4 wine from the Bernhard Ott winery stands on a stone table. A ray of sunlight shines through the glass and the reflection of the sun can be seen through the wine glass.

Wagram: interpreted with depth and energy.

The story began in 1989 when Bernhard’s father, Eduard Ott, invited friends to a vintage tasting in his wine cellar. The unanimous result of the tasting was that the best wine was from barrel number four, which gave the wine its name. Even 30 years later, our goal remains the same every year: to capture the characteristic qualities of Grüner Veltliner in harmony with the local terroir.

HARVEST & VINIFICATION

100% hand-picked. Small parcels vinified separately, then blended. Spontaneously fermented. Partially basket-pressed. Longer full-lees aging and more oak character than Am Berg®.

ORIGIN

From higher-elevation vineyards in the Wagram and Kamptal. Loess soils. Up to 30 year old vines.

Since 2018, we have been working with large Stockinger oak casks and now vinify a considerable share of FASS 4® in large oak as well. A step back to traditional craftsmanship in the cellar, which gives our wines depth and character.

Hengstberg and us.

Pristine nature can be found on the back side of the Feuersbrunn Hengstberg, which is also the highest point in the region. The unique interplay of two climatic influences here is the perfect place for our elegant Grüner Veltliner.
