Ried SPIEGEL Feuersbrunn

Unique in its finesse and aromatics.
Our Grüner Veltliner Ried Spiegel, 1ÖTW Erste Lage, is a true reflection of its site: Cool Veltliner style, very refined, delicate, elegant and juicy. The liveliest of our three single-vineyard wines and always the first to open up.

Keeping the long view.
Eight hectares of Veltliner grow in the Spiegel, a quantity that allows us to selectively use grapes for one of our signature Veltliners only from the oldest and best vines. The consistently high extract comes from vines with roots several meters deep, the intensity and deep spiciness from the southern exposure, and the vitality and juiciness from biodynamic farming. The term Spiegel once stood for lookout point and usually marks a hill from which the surrounding land can be easily overlooked.

The Riede Spiegel vineyard has been an integral part of our vineyard portfolio since 2010. On the characteristic loess and gravel soils, the vines planted in the mid-1970s produce wines of impressive elegance and finesse. Current ratings also underscore the potential of this location: With the 2023 vintage, we were awarded 98 points from A la Carte and 96 points from Falstaff.

ORIGIN
Our highest vineyard, at up to 350 meters above sea level. The upper terraces, near the forest, have soils of tertiary gravel and loess. Further down the slope, the loess layer is up to 15 meters deep. A cool, windy spot that opens towards Waldviertel and Kamptal.
HARVEST & VINIFICATION
100% hand-picked. 100% spontaneous fermentation. 100% basket-pressed. It remains in the large Stockinger oak cask for two winters and is bottled no earlier than the following May.
TASTE EXPERIENCE
Fresh meadow herbs, a hint of lemon balm and chamomile, lime zest, and a dark-mineral note.
Ried SPIEGEL
This Veltliner reflects the coolness of the site through finesse and aromatic clarity. It is—how should one put it—always the most curious of the three single-vineyard wines. The first to open up, the most slender.
