Ried STEIN Engabrunn

Stone by stone.
A Grüner Veltliner with classic Kamptal character: aromatic, smooth, yellow-fruited, concentrated on the palate, with mineral notes. Despite its ripeness, it retains a lean, graceful profile. Complex and profound, like the location in which its vines are rooted.

Geological potpourri.
Ried Stein is exceptional in many respects. It is our only single-vineyard site in Kamptal, and although loess sets the tone, other geological formations also lend the wine a character typical of the region. The wine is shaped by gravel deposited by the Danube thousands of years ago, as well as by ancient marine deposits and — unusual for the region — Gföhl gneiss. The climate is slightly cooler, and the vines benefit from the humus-rich soils.

Riede Stein has been cultivated since 1426 — first by Göttweig Abbey, and since 2010, by Bernhard Ott. This fruit-driven, elegant site continues to delight both our loyal Ott fans and the wine publications. Thanks to its early approachability and purist elegance, the roughly 50-year-old vines deliver outstanding quality year after year, achieving top ratings both in Austria and abroad. With the 2023 vintage, we were awarded an impressive 98 points from A la Carte and 96 points from Falstaff.

TASTE EXPERIENCE
Fine apple fruit, subtle tobacco notes, a hint of mango and delicate notes of orange zest. Juicy, with nuances of ripe apricots, salty minerality, fine acidity, silky texture with a long, lingering finish marked by ripe greengages.
