Ried KIRCHTHAL Feuersbrunn

OTT times 2.
Veltliner and Riesling vineyards. The Riesling vines come from the region and we grafted them ourselves in 1989. Wines with very fine, delicate aromas. Released in limited quantities, always two years later.

Since the 2023 vintage, 1ÖTW Erste Lage.
The Kirchthal vineyard lies at an altitude of up to 370 meters above sea level, making it the highest vineyard in Feuersbrunn. The soils consist of thick loess, with layers of Haller Schlier near the Grüner Veltliner vineyards. This elevation also features the tertiary gravel typical of the location where our Riesling vines grow. The name Kirchthal comes from the fact that the sound of the church bell could supposedly be heard particularly well in a shallow hollow here.

The 2017 vintage was the first time a single-vineyard wine was produced from this vineyard. The debut wine was an immediate success, consistently achieving over 93 points in leading wine publications such as A la Carte and Falstaff. With the 2023 vintage, which was classified as 1ÖTW Erste Lage for the first time, we were awarded an impressive 96 points from A la Carte and 95 points from Falstaff. This development clearly demonstrates the potential of this vineyard — and we look forward to everything yet to come.
Ried Kirchthal Feuersbrunn in a glass
ORIGIN
A site bordering the forest along the Hengstberg ridge, north of Feuersbrunn, with two distinct terroirs. In a smaller section there is an exposed south-facing loess terrace, while the rest of the site consists predominately of tertiary gravel typical for this altitude, with opok at a depth of around 80 meters.
HARVEST & VINIFICATION
100% hand-picked. 100% spontaneous fermentation. 100% basket-pressed. It remains in the large Stockinger oak cask for two winters and is bottled no earlier than the following May.
TASTE EXPERIENCE
Grüner Veltliner: Complex and delicately spicy, with a positively dry character and a subtle lemon note on the finish.
Riesling: White peach, a hint of saffron, delicate floral notes, lifted by lime zest.
